The Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ

This article outlines our core beliefs regarding the glorious second coming of the Lord Jesus to earth. For a more thorough analysis on this topic, we encourage all readers also to consult our blog article titled, Teachings about the Bodily Resurrection of the Lord Jesus, End Times, and the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, who is One with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit from eternity. He came down from heaven to be born on earth as both the Son of God and the Son of Man to give the bread of life to the world, as He states in John 6:33: “Indeed the bread of God is the One coming down from heaven and giving life to the world.” As the Lamb of God, the Lord Jesus was crucified for the sins of the world, serving as the perfect sacrifice. He died on the cross for the sins of the world, was buried in the tomb, rose out form the dead on the third day, ascended to heaven, and is seated at the Father’s right hand. To attain salvation, one simply needs to believe in the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, and in His redemptive work on the cross—there is nothing else required. Before His ascension to heaven, He appeared in His resurrected body to many of His disciples. He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, and He promised that He will come again to take His followers to be with Him. In Acts 1:1-11, we read about the Lord Jesus being taken to heaven while the disciples watched Him ascend. “And while they were looking steadfastly into the heaven as He was going, and behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; who also said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, thus will come in that manner you beheld Him going into heaven” (Acts 1:10-11).

Will the Lord Jesus Return to the Earth?

The Book of Revelation depicts a glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ to the earth, commonly known as the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus to earth. So, will the Lord Jesus return indeed as He Himself and the angels promised to His disciples?
Throughout His ministry, the Lord Jesus spoke numerous times about His resurrection, His return to the Father in heaven, and His second coming to earth. For instance, in John 14:1-4, the Lord Jesus tells His disciples, “Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, and believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again, and will receive you to Myself; that where I am, you may be also. And where I go, you know the way.” Additionally, before His suffering on the cross, the Lord Jesus discussed the end times with His disciples, saying, “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory” (Matthew 24:30). Furthermore, during His trial, while being questioned by the High Priest before His crucifixion, the Lord Jesus identified Himself as the Christ, the Son of the Blessed, declaring that they “will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven” (Mark 14:62).

Therefore, we firmly believe that the Lord Jesus will return to take His followers to be with Him for eternity in His kingdom and to judge the living and the dead. But some may wonder how long we must wait for the Lord Jesus’ return to earth and whether the Gospels provide clear specifics about His return and its timing. We provide extensive commentary on this subject in Matthew 13, Matthew 24, Matthew 25, Mark 13, and Luke 21. We encourage all readers to consult our comments in these chapters. The Bible teaches that all Christians should live each day with the hope of the glorious return of the Lord Jesus to the earth, believing that one day we will be with Him for eternity in His kingdom on the new earth. When speaking to His disciples about the end times, the Lord Jesus forewarned all believers about what would happen in the world before His return. However, the rest of the world needs to read the Bible for themselves and learn to pray. For further reading, see the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24. The Lord Jesus provided several warnings to believers regarding the times to come and His return, which are essential for us to consider.
  • Watch your faith.
  • No one knows the time and the hour of the second coming of the Lord Jesus; only God the Father knows it.
  • The Bible will be attacked to wither the faith of the true believers, which is the beginning of false christs to arrive.
  • There will appear wrong translations of the Bible and many false christs.
  • All of the attacks will be directed to destroy the Holy Bible as this now is the temple of the Holy Spirit on earth.
  • The Gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed to the whole world and then the end time will come.
  • Keep an eye on the abomination of desolation when the world wide will have a fake Bible and will start to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.
  • The ones that endure to the end will be saved.

When is the Lord Jesus Christ Returning to the Earth to Take His Bride?

In Matthew 13, the Lord Jesus speaks in parables about the Kingdom of God. The parable of the weeds, found in Matthew 13:24-30 illustrates that the church will be mixed with both the righteous (wheat) and the unrighteous (weeds) until the end times. It emphasizes the importance of studying and meditating on the Word of God to discern the difference between truth and error within the church. In our comments on Matthew 13:30 we discuss the Lord Jesus judging His house and provide brief notes on His second coming.

In Matthew 24, the Lord Jesus and His disciples were on the Mount of Olives. His disciples asked Him privately, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Thy coming, and of the consummation of the age?” In response, the Lord Jesus addresses three main topics: warnings for believers, the troubles that will occur in the world, and His time of return. The events that the Lord describes in this chapter will indeed come to pass. When the Lord provides warnings in the Bible, we must be prepared because they will happen. In our commentary on Matthew 24:3, we offer insights on the temple of the Lord that will help in understanding end-time events. Additionally, this chapter includes commentary related to: the Lord’s warnings to the believers, the Lord’s discourse about the troubles that will happen to the world, and the Lord’s time of return.

The dialogue between the Lord Jesus and His disciples on the Mount of Olives is also recorded in Mark 13. In this chapter, we provide additional commentary on signs and warnings. In the comments for Mark, we offer further explanations related to Matthew’s account regarding the second coming of the Lord Jesus to earth.

In Matthew 25, specifically in the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-12), the Lord Jesus teaches us that we do not know the exact time or hour of His return; therefore, we must always be prepared. No one knows the time and the hour; only the Father knows. No one can impersonate the Father and know the time; even the Lord Jesus Himself does not know. The Lord Jesus never portrayed Himself as knowing all, and in the Bible, the Lord Jesus tells us that only the Father knows the time. Trinity of God, but the Lord Jesus humbles Himself and accepts His role to be under the Father’s authority. However, there will be signs indicating that the return of the Lord Jesus is approaching. For instance, Matthew 25:6 states “at middle of the night there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.” We offer detailed commentary on this verse regarding the second coming of the Lord, as well as insights related to the marriage feast, the rapture, and the tribulation (see Comments Matthew 25:6).
