Holy Spirit Baptism for a Christian

Should a Believer Seek the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?

The answer is yes, and the answer is found in the Gospels. The Lord Jesus Himself was baptized in the water and the Holy Spirit, and many passages of the Scripture tell us that the Lord Jesus is the one that baptizes with the Holy Spirit (See, for example, Luke 3:16, Luke 3:21-22, Luke 12:50, Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-12, Luke 3:21-22, John 3:32-34, Matthew 3:11-12, Mark 1:7-8, Luke 3:16-17, John 3:34-35, John 1:33, John 3:23, Mark 16:16). A true believer in God’s beloved Son should follow all the teachings and examples of the behavior of the beloved Son of God in order to live a faithful Christian life. While staying with His disciples in Jerusalem, after His bodily resurrection, the Lord Jesus ordered His disciples to wait for the promise of the Father, namely, the baptism with the Holy Spirit saying to them, as given in Luke 24:49: “And behold, I am sending out the promise of My Father upon you; but remain you in the city, until you be clothed with power from on high.” Furthermore, Luke, speaking through the Holy Spirit, confirms the Lord Jesus’ commandment and promise in Acts 1:4-5, by saying, “He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father: which you heard of Me; for John indeed baptized with water; however, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit, not many days after these.” Finally, in Acts chapter 2, we witness the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples: “and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance,” (Acts 2:4). The baptism in the Holy Spirit, the promise of the Father, is for all believers in the beloved Son of God, not only for the ones that waited at that time in Jerusalem.
In Acts 2:38, Peter preaching to the multitude says, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Therefore, the gift of God, the most powerful, the gift of the Holy Spirit, will be given to anyone if they are ready. Repent and receive the baptism of repentance in the water first, and then the Holy Spirit will come to baptize you if you seek it and are ready. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a completion of the salvation seal, which means that the human spirit has joined the salvation seal of the believer. And, speaking in tongues is the sign for the believer that they received the baptism in the Holy Spirit (See Acts 2:2-4, Comments Matthew 16:18, and John 1:33). The Lord God has a plan for that person when their spirit joins the salvation seal; the work from the will of the Father will be performed through that joining.

How Can a Believer Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit?

One specific verse that we linked to the baptism in the Holy Spirit practice is John 1:33. In the comments related to this verse, we explain what the baptism in the Holy Spirit is and how a believer can get the baptism in the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues (See Comments John 1:33). Other essential comments that we posted related to the baptism of the Holy Spirit can be found in Matthew 16:18, Luke 12:50, and Acts 2:1-39. We encourage all believers through prayer and fasting to ask mercy from the Father in the name of the Lord Jesus to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Pray together with other supporting believers and keep asking and knocking, and the Lord will pour out His blessing.
